Chocolatouring in 2015
As I continue the research for the second volume of Chocolatour, my chocolate travels will take me to numerous places–some planned, some spontaneous visits no doubt! Among the places I have pegged to visit in the coming year are:
1. The Okanagan Valley and Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada. We’re spending the month of January at the Spirit Ridge Wine Resort & Spa in Osoyoos and I’m keeping my eye open in Osoyoos and the surrounding area for signs of noteworthy chocolate and activities you might enjoy.
2. I will be attending the NATJA conference in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, from May 4-9, and will then head to Mexico City to visit the Nestlé Chocolate Museum.
3. I’ve been invited to come check out the Hershey Chocolate Resort in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA, and will also explore Philadelphia while in the area.
4. I’ve been meaning to return to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA, to visit a number of chocolatier/chocolate makers and chocolate venues. At some point during 2015, I will make it there.
5. I’ve not been to the city of New York since 2001! There are several excellent chocolate makers in the city that I absolutely must visit, so a personal Chocolatour to the Big Apple in 2015 is a must.
6. I also hope to be leading a group Chocolatour to the Hawaiian Islands for clients of CAA Travel in October to celebrate the state’s declaration naming October as Hawaii Grown Cacao Month. We plan to visit the islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui during the last two weeks of October.
I have no doubt other destinations will come onto my radar over the next year, but these are locations I am hoping to visit for the purposes of my chocolate research during 2015.
As you know, volume II of Chocolatour will focus on the Americas and the Caribbean, so the above list will greatly enhance the information I can offer you in the upcoming volume of the book. If you don’t yet have a copy of volume I, or are looking for a gift for your favourite chocolate lover, there is more info here.

Love your photos Doreen! Your whole website is making me hungry 🙂
Thanks, Sarah! Then … I am achieving my goal in awakening your senses. Enjoy!
That big Hershey’s chocolate is calling out to me. SO. MUCH. Great post by the way! Your chocolatouring tour this year looks like it will be epic!
Thx for your comment, Aileen, and welcome to the. Blog! Stay tuned for lots more chocolate travel adventures.
Looks and sounds like your chocolatouring this year will be fantastic, Doreen! Enjoy!
Thx, Catarina. It’s starting out very well. Here’s hoping the positive spirit will prevail. All the best to you this year as well.
Thx so much, Susan. I’m looking forward to a great year, and really have been appreciating the opportunity to start it off slow and easy.
Hi Doreen, no wonder you needed to relax and refresh at the spa to start the year. With that full schedule ahead of you for 2015 you definitely needed to recharge the batteries. It sounds like you have a lot of exciting things to look forward to and interesting places to visit. Here’s to a happy healthy & productive new year!
Sounds like a great year for you. How is the first volume of your book doing? Just curious… I have no idea where, if anywhere, we will travel this year.
Hi Cheryl and Thx for dropping by. The 1st volume of Chocolatour is getting great reviews on Amazon and in other venues. I’m slowly getting the word out and making the right connections, but it’s definitely a process that takes a lot of time and effort. Am hoping to forge some corp sponsorships so that I can beef up the marketing and expand my reach. Cheers!
I can see you’ll have chocolate-busy year! Wish you good luck and enjoy Hawaii, I’m excited for you, since it’s my dream destination.
Thx, Milan. Hawaii is definitely one of my favourite places on the planet. I would love to live there but it would make global travel more difficult. Maybe someday …
Hi Doreen, it sounds like you have a great year planned! It looks like I’ll be in the Caribbean this spring: I’m eyeing Guadeloupe and St.Maartens/St.Eustasius. Any chocolate-related recommendations?
Hi Rachel. Lucky you! I love the Caribbean. I’m also hoping to make it back to the Dominican Republic this year as they are growing some great Cocoa there. But I’m afraid I don’t have any chocolate reccos for the islands you are visiting. We really loved St. Maartens, but it’s been a long while since I was there. Enjoy your travels!
Hi Doreen,
It looks like a busy and delicious year!
I didnt know about the Hersheys Resort, must be amazing!!!!!
Cheers,
Hi Robson and Thx for your comment.
Yes, the world of chocolate travel possibilities are endless. I’m looking forward to makng done new discoveries, and to receiving some unexpected invitations!
This all looks so exciting, and I’m sure it will be lots of fun.
We loved our time in NYC. We’ve seen The Big Apple in Winter (2011) and Summer (2012) so now it’s time for a Spring or Fall visit. Jim’s photo in the lobby of the Empire State Building shows some of the Art Deco that was recently restored. There is no much to see in NYC–and so little time–especially with all of the other places you want to go. Happy Chocolatouring!
Hi Christine and Thx for your comment. And thx again to Jim for sharing his pic of the Empire State Bldg. My time in NYC was so long ago that all my pics are on slide and I’ve not yet converted them to digital. Definitely time for a return visit to the Big Apple!
Doreen,
I absolutely love your photography! It always visually takes to the places that you’ve been or want to go.
I just left a comment for you on your DoreenPendgracs.com site (where you wrote about setting your goals while you’re at the Spirit Ridge Wine Resort & Spa in Osoyoos). You’re researching chocolate while you’re there? I honestly had never heard about Osoyoos before you mentioned it. It wouldn’t have occurred to me that you could research chocolate there but I guess you can find chocolate anywhere!
There’s a Hershey Chocolate Resort now? Why doesn’t that surprise me. My family vacationed there when I was a child and we took a factory tour. At the time, you could walk right by the production lines. I don’t believe they allow that any more.
Hi Sherryl and Thx for your comment.
Yes, you absolutely can find goo chocolate no matter where you go! I leaned that when my friend brought me back fabulous handcrafted chocolate from Iceland! Who’d have thought??!
And yes, I’m looking forward to exploring Hershey and the Hershey Resort. Chocolate wrap coming up for me!
Giving plenty of time to the old US of A! 🙂
We can’t wait to check out historic Philly this year as well!
hi Chris. Yes, volume 2 of Chocolatour will focus on the Americas and the Caribbean. I’ve already researched parts of South Am, Central Am, and the Caribbean, and most of Canada, so I’ve now got to devote a bit more attention to Mexico and parts of the U.S. Cheers!
