chocolate events to entice you

The November 2nd, 2013 chocolate dinner at McNally Robinson Booksellers in Winnipeg was a great success! We had a sell-out crowd, and have scheduled the next dinner of chocolate exploration for April 12th, 2014. You can sign up for that with McNally Robinson here.

I always enjoy signing copies of Chocolatour for chocolate lovers.

I was pleased to sign copies of Chocolatour prior to the dinner. You’ll find some signed copies in the store on Grant Avenue in Winnipeg. Please drop in and grab one for yourself or the favourite chocolate lover in your life.

Here are some photos from last week’s dinner to show you what Chef Karen Nielsen can do!

parsnip-soup

Roasted parsnip soup topped with slow-melting chocolate shavings was our first course.

community classroom

McNally Robinson’s Community Classroom made a lovely venue for the chocolate dinner.

mole-over-chicken

The main course was a zesty chocolate mole sauce over a chicken breast.

chocolate-mousse

The dessert was an intense version of the Chocolate Mousse featured in the recipes chapter of Chocolatour.

The next chocolate event that will have my attention is the Evening of Chocolate Art and Inspiration to be held at the Selkirk Golf & Country in Selkirk, Manitoba on February 14th. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with a chocolate-inspired art show by the WAVE Artists Group and a  dinner featuring a chocolate buffet. I’ll be there with my books and some enticing chocolate courtesy of Constance Popp Chocolatier of Winnipeg.

  1. Dorene —

Yum! These dishes look delicious. I love parsnips so I’ll need to try making the soup with chocolate shavings.

I also want to commend you on your book, which I just finished reading — “Chocolatour: A Quest for the World’s Best Chocolate (Volume I).” Of course, I had followed your world travels through your blog. The book is so thorough and detailed, it will dazzle chocolate lovers. One tiny nitpick is that I would have liked to see more recipes using chocolate. But that wasn’t your goal, I know.

  2. Doreen,
Your photography is a wonderful addition to your posts. I got a kick out of the sign that you display at your book signing table too!

These sound like fabulous events. An evening of chocolate, wine and art sounds like heaven, as does the chocolate tour. Of course my mind starts coming up with ideas for chocolate mysteries…

Thanks for your comment, Pat. Yes, chocolate really does inspire us in many ways. Some people express that in the kitchen, with an edible project they may create. Visual artists may be inspired by the lusciousness and sensuality of chocolate in their work (as we hope will happen in the Feb/14 chocolate art show) and writers like you and Luba Lesychyn use chocolate as a hook in their fiction writing. It’s all good!

Hi Susan and thanks for your comment.

The Chocolatour to Switzerland will include time in Lausanne, where the Swiss grapes are grown. I think there will be some wine and chocolate tastings on the agenda! How amazing to would be to have you join us!

  5. Wow. that sounds like it was a great deal of fun my friend. If I could I would love to join you in April but we will have to see. Any event, past, present or future that has anything to do with chocolate is awesome in my book . 🙂
