I’ve got it — and it just might be contagious!
I’ve got Beatlemania! If you remember the Feb 28/10 post, I talked about the terrific photo exhibit of 1960’s pics of the Fab 4 during tapings of the Ed Sullivan Show. If you missed, it take a walk down memory lane here: http://doreenisthewizardofwords.blogspot.com/2010/02/what-is-it-about-beatles.html.
Today, I had the pleasure of attending the rehearsal of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) tuning up with members of Beatlemania, the pseudo Fab 4 look and sound-alikes led by Tony Kishman of AZ as Paul McCartney and Jim Owen of CA as John Lennon. There is definitely a resemblance between the members of this band and those they emulate.

Manitobans are fortunate to have three concert dates to choose from at the Centennial Concert Hall: tonight and tomorrow night at 8 pm and Sunday, May 9th at 2 pm for a marvellous matinee performance. If you haven’t yet bought your Mother’s Day gift, this is a perfect option that I guarantee pretty much any mother would enjoy. I hear there is still a good selection of available seats for Sunday’s concert, and if you attend, look for me in row 18. I’ll be there swaying and bobbing to the much-loved music I grew up to.
The stage for the WSO’s Classical Mystery Tour (Music of the Beatles) offers an always -changing multi-coloured backdrop that reminds us of the Pop Culture that enhanced the Beatles’ impact on anyone who was growing up between 1962 and 1972.
Hearing my beloved Beatles tunes accompanied by a 65-piece orchestra was magnificent! This full orchestration makes you realize how multi-dimensional the Beatles music was. That, no doubt, had led to its timelessness and lasting impact.
Don’t miss it if you can get tickets. Call the WSO box office at (204) 949-3999 or visit their website at http://www.wso.ca. Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster. Now … if I can get back to Vegas and see the Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles tribute, LOVE, I’ll really be happy!
Thanks, Irene. I think you're right in that the music from your high school years is probably the most influential (or memorable) in your lifetime. For me, that was the last music of the Beatles, the music of The Who (see the Feb 7/10 post on this blog) and the Stones. Loved them all!
Although I did love Elvis, too. We missed him by just one week in Vegas in 1975 on our honeymoon. Stayed at the LV Hilton where he was appearing just as we were checking out!
Like you, we love the WSO and are looking forward with great anticipation to next season.
Hi Everyone,
Like Doreen I attended the Beatles Classical Mystery Tour and loved it. Also have season tickets to the Winnipeg Symphony.
I was engaged to my husband Don by the time the Beatles became known and fondly remember "I Want to Hold Your Hand" being very popular the winter we were married. I've liked them ever since.
I do think, however, that the music from your high school years has a spot in your memory that no other can touch. For me that would be Elvis Presley as number one and Jimmy Rogers because he was so gorgeous.
Hi Jean: Thanks for joining the blog.
Yes, the WSO's Classical Mystery Tour was an amazing success. I particularly liked when they did the older songs, but also loved Hey Jude. So many memories!
The final encore was "Twist & Shout." Totally awesome.
Here is the website for this act. Check and see if they are coming to your town/city as they perform with different orchestras.

I'm looking forward to next season's WSO Pops Series. A tribute to Old Blue Eyes (Frank Sinatra), the Canadian Tenors, Afro-Cuban Nights with Papa Mambo, and yes, the music of Pink Floyd. We are so blessed to have such an awesome orchestra in Winnipeg.
Hello Doreen, I also adore the Beatles. This sounds like an amazing event. Wish I could be there. And I'd like to be there for the Pink Floyd music as well.
Thanks, Christine. Yes, the WSO Beatles concert is truly multi-dimensional. I've just perused the line-up for the upcoming season of WSO Pops and it looks equally intriguing, including a tribute to the music of Pink Floyd! Can't wait for that.
It would be great if this type of show comes to this area. There's a Beatles tribute show coming to Kingston, but it doesn't look to be nearly as multi-dimensional. I'd love to see the show in Vegas too.
Enjoy this concert.
