Fairfield Inn Winnipeg Airport Hotel
When I was growing up in Winnipeg, there was pretty much just one choice for a nice hotel with close proximity to the airport. That was the International Inn, which several years ago, changed its name to the Victoria Inn. In March, 2000, Starwood Hotels opened the Sheraton Four Points Hotel, which at the time, was right at the airport terminal, and you just had to cross the street to check-in. Total convenience and lovely amenities.
The new terminal at James Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg provides many diversions for shopping, dining, and lodging.
But in 2011, a brand new terminal opened at an adjacent location at the James Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg, along with two new hotels offering a prime location. And there are now at least a dozen quality hotels within a five-minute drive of the airport.
I loved the black and white theme used in the bathrooms of the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Winnipeg.

I had the pleasure of recently accepting an invitation to spend three nights at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott (spread over two separate occasions) and fully enjoyed it. The rooms have a number of different configurations, but are all spacious, tastefully furnished, and feature bright black and white washrooms.
This is just part of the breakfast offerings at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Winnipeg.
I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Winnipeg Airport location.
There is a fabulous complimentary breakfast available each morning that offers hard boiled or scrambled eggs, terrific pork sausages, freshly-cut fruit, yogurt, a selection of baked goods, oatmeal, and self-made waffles, accompanied by juices, coffees, and teas to taste. And on the occasion when I had to leave the hotel at 3:30 a.m. to catch a red-eye flight, a bagged breakfast was handed to me on departure so that I could enjoy it when I got to the airport. Now that’s service!
The welcoming front lobby of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Winnipeg pictured above reflects the multi-cultural personality of the hotel. We spoke at length to staff who were recent immigrants from China, the Philippines, and Latvia and noticed others who also were likely newcomers to Canada. This is a terrific re-enforcement of Winnipeg’s multi-cultural persona.
There’s a great pool and waterslide for families to enjoy at the Fairfield Inn Winnipeg.
During my most recent stay, the hotel was busy with families from nearby centres who came to Winnipeg for sports events. Being just five minutes from the airport and ten minutes from downtown, the Fairfield Inn and its sister property the Homewood Suites by Hilton (both situated on the same parking lot on Ellice Avenue near Empress Street) offer terrific well-placed lodging at affordable pricing.

Fairfield Inn looks like a good option for a night (or several nights) near the Winnipeg airport. It’s nice that they did a bagged breakfast for the red-eye flight.

What are the yellow and blue posts coming out of the center of the pool? I kept staring at the picture, deeply fascinated but couldn’t figure it out. I would have loved that water slide as a child. I imagine it is super popular with families. Seems like a very nice hotel Glad you had such a good stay. And so nice that the gave you a breakfast to-go for your wait at the airport.

It looks like the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Winnipeg is a lovely spot for families. I know my kiddos would love that water slide and the breakfast there. I’ll keep it in mind if and when we go to Winnipeg.
The Fairfield Inn looks ultra clean – even down to the swimming pool. One thing I have noticed are some hotels do not pay attention to detail. On the surface the rooms look clean but dig a little deeper and you will find they are not.

I’m with Marquita in avoiding kid-concentrated areas. Ha! Fairfields are very nice when traveling and I love the convenience of an airport connected hotel. Traveling to Milan soon and will stay there for our return flight. So much simpler.
Hi hear you, Rose! I’m not much for waterslides, either. 🙂 But the kids and families were enjoying the facilities so much, I couldn’t help but mention them. I must say the hotel was very clean and quiet, and is also perfect for those who just need some rest. Have Fun in Milan!
Looks like a great place to suggest for my coworkers that is easy to get to from the airport. There are many times I have to catch a red eye and could use a nearby hotel to gain an extra hour of sleep. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Doreen, I too have stayed at this bright, spacious Inn and found the staff to be extremely helpful and pleasant. Thank goodness for me, they also speak English, but some of them actually speak 4-5 languages! It was also very nice to be picked up by the Inn at the airport in the early morning hours, the driver was amazing! The rooms and beds are very comfortable and I like the idea that the hotel is close to the shopping areas and other restaurants with a quick ride to the Airport, Polo Park, etc. This is a well-managed and well-maintained location.

WOW! I did not realize Winnipeg had so much to offer in the way of hotels that are situated close to the airport. The pool looks amazing and appears to offer welcome relaxing retreat for weary travellers. I love it when a hotel offers a complimentary breakfast. It is quick and a great start to the day.

Hi Doreen: Fairfield Inn & Suites in Winnipeg sounds really good !. Especially in the snowbird season, we often get stuck with very early departure times. Having trusted information on one of the many hotels near the James Richardson Int’l Airport is most helpful. As you know, one of my daughters travels to Winnipeg at least a couple of times per year. She used to stay with us on the night before her departure, but recently has chosen to stay at a hotel so we don’t have to be up at 3 a.m. to drive her to the Airport. I don’t think you can go wrong staying at a Marriott hotel Doreen and this Fairfield Inn & Suites looks like a great addition. Complimentary breakfasts always are budget friendly but (as you know) can range from a packaged pastry, a piece of fruit or those tiny boxed cereals (without a bowl). This breakfast looks and sounds delightful. If I’m ever in Winnipeg, I’ll check it out.

When traveling, a good hotel is essential to the traveler. It can make or break a trip be it business or personal trip. This hotel looks like it would be a favorite for both.
So very true, Susan. As someone who lives an hour from the Winnipeg airport, I often have to overnight either on my way out, due to a really early morning flight. Or on the way back, after a really late arrival. Having a nice facility with great staff makes all the difference to a great stay, even if it is brief. Cheers!

Looks great Doreen! The pool looks so inviting, although I must admit I’d personally shy away from the area considering the kid factor, but that’s just me. As someone who has (also) spent a lot of time traveling and had far too many overnight layovers I know how nice it is to have a nice hotel close to the airport. Thanks for sharing!
