SleepPhones make life easier

Did you know that March 19th is World Sleep Day? Sleep is such a precious commodity to us. Without enough of it, we are a mere shadow of ourselves. But most of us need some form of help to get into a deep restful sleep. I’ve been using a Melatonin Magnesium sleep tablet that helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. I find it works really well for me. Especially if I take it an hour before I want to fall asleep.

For anyone who travels a lot, or has difficulty sleeping due to tinnitus, menopause, a snoring partner, or other sleep disruptors, a sleep aid is a necessary part of life.

Quite sometime ago, I had the opportunity to receive a complimentary set of SleepPhones for review, and I was very pleased with the product. I had the regular SleepPhones that were wired (they’re ear buds that are built into a headband that you wear while sleeping.) But a recent visit to their site shows that they now have a wireless version that in my opinion, would be much better.

6 things I like about SleepPhones

  1. When you put them on, you can still hear your partner speaking to you in bed. You can still hear the flight attendant (or person seated next to you) if they are speaking to you on an airplane.
  2. The Sleep Phones block out the sound of your partner snoring and other irritable sounds in your immediate area. They also block out the sound of tinnitus that comes from within your own ears. I don’t know how they know to let some sounds in and keep others out, but it works!
  3. Sleep Phones are easy to pack. We have the bulky Bose noise reducing headphones. We also have noise reducing ear buds that I purchased on a flight. The Sleep Phones are like a weightless head band and fit easily in a pocket or purse pouch.
  4. The Sleep Phones are comfortable. You can easily turn on your side when sleeping and still be comfortable.
  5. The Sleep Phones offer a really good quality sound. How wonderful it is to be able to drift off to sleep with great sounding music or my favourite radio podcast playing in my ear as opposed to other internal or external sounds that prevent me from getting a good sleep.
  6. Sleep Phones are affordable. The corded ones I have are just $39.95 USD and the wireless version is $99.95 USD. Much less than the Bose headphones we purchased.

Was/is there anything I don’t like about the SleepPhones? There is one small thing. It does flatten your hair a bit while you sleep or have them on. But I feel that is a small price to pay for the increased amount of sleep and comfort I have had while using the SleepPhones. So the choice is yours, and that is my complete and honest review.

Here is my affiliate link for this company. They offer a number of different products, including RunPhones, for those of you who jog or like to run with buds in your ears.

If you do buy SleepPhones or RunPhones for yourself or as a gift for someone, I would appreciate if you would do so via this link as the income I receive by way of a small commission will help underwrite the costs of this site.

Thanks, best wishes, and Happy World Sleep Day!

SleepPhones seem like a game changer for anyone who struggles with sleep disturbances! Their comfy design and ability to block out noise while still allowing some sound in make them ideal for a peaceful night’s rest. Definitely a unique take on headphones for sleep!

SleepPhones seem like a great solution for improving sleep quality. They let you hear important sounds while blocking out disruptions like snoring or tinnitus. They’re comfortable, portable, and affordable. Thanks for sharing this helpful review.

  3. New and very interesting program launch- DubsLabs are makers of the only in-ear headphone that you can wear to bed and while sleeping (Bedphones).

  4. Hey Doreen. Great tips…Will try next time I travel to catch some sleep. Have you tried to use sleepphones at home ?

I have to say: great text, great suggestion! I travel a lot and I’m always tired because I just can not sleep while traveling. Music relaxes me and with this headphones, I started to sleep like a little baby! Sleepphones really make life easier and better.
Try it, you’ll like it! Who else had this problem with sleeping?

    Hey Doreen,

Thanks for sharing your honest review on sleep phones. I’ve been considering getting one as someone snores a lot every night. Haha 😉 And getting a good night sleep nowadays is pretty hard, this will probably help me a lot. Although I’ve been using earplugs which is great and safe. Just wondering about safety when it comes to using sleep phones?

    • Not sure what you mean about safety and sleepphones. They are flat, comfortable, and no different than wearing any other headphones re safety. A big difference from ear plugs! With sleep phones, you have the pleasure of your chosen music or diversion to entertain or lull you to sleep over other noises that may be in the room or come from within your head (such as tinnitus.)

  7. Sanaya Irani says:

This is the first time i heard about sleeping phones…the way described about it is amazing.

  8. That is amazing! I wonder how it knows what sounds to block? Since I wear my hair in a ponytail when sleeping, the hair thing wouldn’t bother me at all.

  9. I’ve never heard of sleepphones before. My question is: are they also noise canceling? I only need noise canceling on a plane, since it helps my general anxiety if I don’t hear the changes in the engine sounds. Or is it just generally overriding the ambient noise with whatever music you’re playing?

    • Hi Rachel: for me, they do work in a noise cancelling mode. You do not have to play the music or audio loud in order for it to drown out unwanted sounds like snoring. Yet, it is interesting how you can still hear your partner speak to you if he is lying next to you. I don’t know how they work, but I do find the Sleep Phones to be well worth the small investment.

  10. Wow, a wonderful product sleep phones are. I wonder if they work for me? I snore so loud, sometimes I wake myself up. Thanks for sharing this product with us.

  11. I’m not normally a great fan of any sort of headphones but I can see that sleep phones could be good on a long flight (or in noisy hotel rooms!)

  12. I’ve never before heard of SleepPhones but will be thinking about how I might benefit from them. For sure I’ll try them if my husband starts snoring again (for some reason he stopped a few years ago!).

  13. I’m a big fan of traveling with my I-Pod, switching between audio books, music and podcasts and have used it for years to help block out all the sounds around me. Unfortunately, the ear buds fall out occasionally or hurt if you lay on them so the Sleep Phone headband sounds like a great solution. I’ll have to see if I can find them in Europe or I’ll use your affiliate link and have friends bring them over when they come my way. It’s always great to find a useful product like this. Thanks!

  14. Well, I have tinnitus so this is definitely worth taking a closer look at. I’ll take a closer look and if I decide to invest in them I’ll be happy to use your affiliate link. Thanks, Doreen!

First time I’ve heard of sleep phones. That sounds incredible!

  16. Sleep Phones sound like a really useful product. I use earplugs but they don’t work for a snoring. I love that Sleep Phones block out the sound of your partner snoring. Are you able to have the Sleep Phone set to silent or white noise?

    • Hi Michele. The Sleep Phones don’t have their own sound source. They just broadcast whatever medium you plug them into. It is their design that is noteworthy, as for someone like me who has tried many ear buds and they don’t fit properly, these are really comfortable!

  17. I’ve never heard of these – good to know! I use the white noise app on my phone when on a long haul flight, and that helps, but have never thought of using something like that for sleeping in bed…may try it!

    • Hi Anne. that’s what I used to do, too. But I found the buds are awkward as they either fall out just as you’ve gotten comfortable, or they prevent you from getting comfortable. At least in my experience! Because the Sleep Phones are flat, they are comfortable in any position.

  18. Phoenicia says:

I have absolutely no problems getting off to sleep and would dislike having any form of device in my ear. Even my mobile phone is kept on the other side of the room as I do not want it directly beside my bed. When my alarm goes off I am forced to get out of bed in order to switch it on.

I like to be free when sleeping the only jewellery I wear are my engagement and wedding rings.

    • Hi Phoenicia. I’m sure there are many of us who are deeply envious of your ability to sleep! I used to be in that category. But now as a menopausal woman with tinnitus, and someone who travels frequently at all hours of the night, I often find my sleep disrupted.

  19. Good to hear they worked for you. I’m not a fan of things on my head or in my ears when I sleep, even though there are times Snoring Man makes it a necessity. I’m the one who wants total silence and a black room for sleeping. Can you imagine my parents dealing with this when I was a kid? HA!

    • Hi Rose. I hear you. But unfortunately, we are sometimes in a situation or a place where external sounds can be irritating or disruptive to our sleep. Definitely good for flights when you want to grab a little shut-eye, as I find many ear buds fall out and are a nuisance when you’re trying to sleep sitting up.

  20. Doreen, This is an excellent suggestion. I had not heard about these before but they would make a wonderful Christmas gift. Thanks for the suggestion. (I’ll definitely use your link if
    I buy them.)

  21. These sound interesting and useful, thanks for bringing them to our attention.

  22. I have been using them for years, both at home and on the road. I also use them on overnight flights—they are so much more comfortable than traditional headphones. I use both a white noise app and a playlist of music I set up for sleeping (think George Winston). I can play the app and the music independently or in combination.

  23. This does look like an interesting product. I could hook it up to my sound machine. I have tinnitus and (I am told) I snore, so my wearing the Sleep Phones might help Jim and me to both get a better sleep. One question: is the cord long enough to allow some moving around? I am a bit of a restless sleeper at times. If I ordered the Phones, I would definitely do it through your affiliation. Thanks for this review, Doreen.

    • Hi Christine. If you get the corded ones, you use the cord of your phone or whatever output device you attach to the headband. If you are a really restless sleeper, the cordless model might be better for you.

    • Hi Christine: I just realized my previous reply to you was incorrect. When you attach the sleep phones to your sound device, you are using a roughly 4-foot-long lightweight chord that is built into the sleep phones headband. That would be long enough if your sound machine is within close reach of your body.

  24. These sound great Doreen. Headphones are a tricky purchase as you can’t really tell how good they are til you’ve used them a few times. I wonder if they’re comfortable enough to lay on your side with them on?

  25. Who doesn’t need a more restful sleep! Interesting on the tinnitus blocking.

    • It is indeed, Jan. Sufferers of tinnitus know how there is no such thing as silence. We always hear some form of buzzing or ringing. By wearing the Sleep Phones, I can trick my mind into listening to the music or program versus that relentless buzzing that inhabits the ‘silence’ of the night.

  26. Linda says:

Wow. First I’ve heard of Sleep Phones. They sound like the best invention since the wheel!

    • Absolutely, Linda. And something I forgot to mention, is that it’s so amazing how neither my cat (who sleeps on my head!) or my husband can hear the output coming from the Sleep Phones. I’m very happy with the product.

  27. Ceci says:

    Yes, I ordered them!

  28. Ceci says:

I NEED these! Of course I’ll order via your site. 🙂

  29. Interesting – I’ve never thought something like this but I may need to look at this product before my next trip.

  30. Leo Tat says:

I’ve used sleep phones before for sleep music to help me relax in bed. It worked well. However, the left ear phone stopped working after three weeks. It was a different brand, and probably the build quality is not as good. I clicked on your sleep phone affiliate link as I wanted to find out more about the sleep phone you reviewed, but it redirects to your homepage for some reason.

    • Hi Leo and thanks for your comment. I find that the digital reception you receive with the sleep phones is very dependent on the output quality. Some musical productions have a strong balance between the left and right speakers. Some seem to be quite weak on one side or the other. But overall, the balance rec’d in the Sleep Phones is very good. Thx for the heads-up re the affiliate link. We have now corrected that.
