Destiny
We had the pleasure of seeing the movie Slumdog Millionaire some time ago. Not that every scene of the movie was a pleasure to watch–there was much violence and unpleasantness throughout. But the movie rang through with realism about the harshness of life in the slums of India. I got that firsthand from an acquaintance who was born there.
The theme of the movie–destiny–is one that is dear to my heart. I do indeed believe in destiny. That when your number’s up, it’s up. And that in the case of Jamal, when one is destined to find true love–or win 20 million rupees–it will happen, regardless of the obstacles. More about the movie at:

The most fascinating brush I have had with destiny was back in 1987, when I went to have my palms read at the Sheraton Hotel in Winnipeg. They had a remarkable woman working in the lounge, who for $20, would disclose your destiny based on what she read in the palms of your hands. (Alas, the Sheraton Hotel is no longer open in Winnipeg and I don’t have contact information for this palmist. Perhaps one of you readers will.)
She looked at my palms and very confidently said, “Ahhh, I see you’re a writer.” Puzzled, I replied, “I am an underwriter.” (I worked for Manitoba Public Insurance for 18 years, and was a commercial underwriter there for nine years before they closed the general insurance division.)
“No,” continued the reader. “I see you writing creative works–like a book.” Well, lo and behold, in 1990, MPI closed the general insurance division and retrained me in communications. And then in 1993, more positions were eliminated and I was forced to leave my new job in the communications department. I accepted a buyout package and by some turn of fate, became a freelance writer, and eventually an author of books. It was my destiny. And hopefully, my destiny has even more great creative works in store for me.
That same thread shone through in the Four Pillars of Destiny reading that I had done by Rochel Parker several months ago. It seems that my greatest works are yet to come.
Many people guffaw my belief in the words of people with “special” talents. But in my life, they have given me insight into situations that otherwise may have gone unnoticed or may have been lost opportunities.
And I was thrilled when a friend recently sent me some healing energy telepathically. With the caregiving role I am in right now, every little bit of extra help and insight is most welcome and gives me encouragement to be strong and persevere.

Thanks for sharing Doreen. I do believe in psychic powers and destiny. Sometimes I just need a little extra shove to tell me it’s okay to believe.
Over the last year or so, I’ve met a psychic and an angel reader/healer through a friend. This friend has shared some of what she has learnt and told me once that if I wanted help from my Angels, I just had to ask. So one night, I was a bit overwhelmed and stressed and I asked my Angels for guidance. In the morning, I woke up to a personal message from the Angel Intuitive that I had met and reached out to once but had yet to set up an appointment. I will mention that a year had gone by since I last messaged her.
Some things are just too hard to ignore.

So I know that there is definitely some psychic energy happening in my world right now. I am every confident that you and I share at least two Angel Guides. RIGHT UP my alley, Doreen! Yes, I absolutely believe in destiny and people with intuitive abilities. I have gotten the most amazing and uplifting messages from some of them over the past few years. One of them also saw my writing abilities and told me the same thing – I have a lot of good stuff coming! Another energy healer gave me a beautiful reassurance about meeting my husband soon, and he walked into my life just a few short months later. Now I do energy healing myself and consider it one of the greatest gifts of my life. Thank you for sharing these stories about your destiny – and most of all, for embracing it! I truly believe that whenever one of us embraces our destiny, the energy of the planet is uplifted.

I used to be a complete skeptic of psychic powers and then one Sunday morning I was with a group of friends who drove out to watch a car race in the desert. On the way, we stopped at the house of a friend of one of our group. He mentioned on the way that the woman who lived there had amazing psychic powers and I just blew it off being a little annoyed that we had to make the stop at all. We picked up some camping equipment and were on our way to the car when she stopped me and took my hand, and held it. Then she told me that we should not sit in the first two rows of bleachers on the race track. She squeezed my hand, smiled and walked back into the house. Even though I tried to laugh it off, and didn’t even tell the others exactly what she said. However, I did talk them into sitting up higher in the bleachers for a “better view.” Halfway through the race two cars collided and went through the fence and crashed into the first two rows of the bleachers. Thank heavens no one was killed but several were seriously injured. To this day I get chicken skin just thinking about that experience!
Hi Marty, and thanks so much for sharing that story. I got “chicken skin” (what we refer to as goosebumps) just reading your message. I firmly believe in the psychic abilities of some individuals and have been very grateful with those who have shared their special insights and guidance with me.
I believe God has a plan for each of us and that he leads people into our lives to reveal those plans to us. Like plopping the right book in front of you at the exact right moment in your life. While I would never go to a palm reader, I respect that she was the messenger sent to you at that time–and look what has unfolded! I say: awesome.

Doreen, the lady indeed read your palms right. Yes, I do believe in destiny. As a matter of fact, I believe in Karma more than destiny.
Destiny is not in our hands. But Karma is. We do good, good happens to us. We do bad, then we face the same music. It’s that simple for me and I am writing this from my own experience.
So, we are solely responsible for creating our destiny with the blessings of the Almighty.

As a Christian I do not get involved with things of the occult. I do believe some people have particular gifts – some use it for good and some for bad.
Hi Phoenicia. You will see that I have tagged this post in the “Spirituality” category. I believe that you pray and receive guidance via the Minister at your church. The same holds true for those of us who do not attend formal church activities. We pray, we believe in the higher power, and we seek guidance from God (who some may call the Creator.)
